The brief outline itinerary for our 3 day safari from Dar es Salaam to the Mikumi National Park by road will be as per below program:

Day 1 : Pick up from Dar es Salaam (hotel or airport), transfer to Mikumi for afternoon game drives.

Day 2: Full day wildlife safari in the Mikumi National Park

Day 3: Morning game drives at Mikumi (If you wish – at extra park fees), transfer back to Dar es Salaam.

3 Days Mikumi Safari from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar

3 Day Mikumi Safari from Dar es Salaam Mikumi National Park is the closest wildlife safari park to the Capital of Dar es Salaam and it is also the closest to Zanzibar Island. If you are in Zanzibar we can arrange a ferry transfer to Dar es Salaam to start this Mikumi safari or a short flight depending on your preferences and budget.

This safari can be done by staying at the budget / middle-class or Standard luxury lodges or tented camps.

It is worthy noting that the distance from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park is a long distance and that the drive can take between 5 hours and 6 hours depending on the traffic first as you leave the city of Dar es Salaam but also on the number of police checks on the way that can take a lot of your time on the way. There are also seemingly too many speed restriction signs on the road with 50 Km Per hour stretches being the most prominent on the route. Speed guns can slow you down on this road.

3 Days Mikumi Safari from Dar es Salaam – where to Stay?

In this published 3 days safari from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park, you are scheduled in a very nice midrange lodge like Camp Bastian or stay in the Matembezi Safari Lodge. Both lodges are located within the Mikumi Township just outside the park and at the outskirts of that MikumI township. The lodges come with all the amenities of a nice decent lodge that you may think of and the Camp Bastian Camp come with a swimming pool on site.

Alternatively you may also stay at the budget rest house and bungalows also known as ‘bandas’ at the Tanapa run Mikumi Park Bandas inside the park.

If you want an upgrade you may also stay at the Mikumi Wildlife Camp inside the park or stay at the deluxe camps like VUma Hills Tented Camp or the Stanley Kopjes Camp. Please ask our safari experts for an upgrade.

3 Days Mikumi Safari from Dar es Salaam itinerary

Day 01

Dar Es Salaam - Mikumi

On the first day of safari you will be picked up at your hotel in Dar es Salaam or at the Airport and start on your drive to Mikumi National Park along the Dar es Salaam – Morogoro highway. The park is nestled beautifully nestled between the Uluguru Mountains of the Ancient Eastern Arc Mountains to the East and the Great Rift Valley Escarpments to the parks Southwest. Not very far from Dar es Salaam and on a good tarmac road the transfer from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi takes about 4 – 4.5 hours. You will arrive around noon and go straight for game drives around the park with packed lunch at a picnic site. Later in the afternoon we drive to the Camp for dinner and overnight.

Overnight at Camp Bastian a nice lodge located just outside Mikumi Park National Park at the park’s boundaries with all amenities you can find in a luxury lodge. The lodge has beautiful gardens and a nice swimming pool where you can take a dip to cool down from the scorching African sun during the dry season. Lunch box and dinner included.

Day 02

Full day Mikumi National Park

Spend a full day with game drives around the Mikumi National Park with a packed lunch or do morning and afternoon game drives with a lunch break at the lodge/tented camp. Mikumi National Park is part of the larger Selous Ecosystem together with the Selous Game Reserve and harbors remarkable numbers of bird’s species and animals. Among the animals that can be spotted at Mikumi includes giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, impalas, warthogs, zebras, wildebeests, elands and many other antelopes. Apart from game drives in the park you can also go for a guided walking safari guided by an armed ranger. Overnight at Camp Bastian or Matembezi Safari Lodge at Mikumi located outside the park. Lunch box and dinner included.

Day 03

Mikumi - Dar Es Salaam

This morning after breakfast check out of the lodge/camp and drive back (with picnic lunch on the way) to Dar es Salaam where the safari ends. You will be dropped back at your hotel or Dar es Salaam Airport if departing back home or to fling to Zanzibar.

On this 3rd day you can do one last game drive in the morning if not in a hurry, at an extra park entry fees of USD 36. If you want us to pay this for you please let us know well in advance because we need to process the payment online on the TANAPA payment portal.
