It is a quick short safari from Zanzibar that we offer with a short flight from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam and a flight back to the Zanzibar Island.

From your hotel in Stonetown Zanzibar or from the beach we can arrange airport pick ups and drop offs for you or you can arrange your own transfers to the airport early in the morning for your flight to Dar es Salaam that usually departs at 07.30 hrs.

3 Days Mikumi Safari Starting from Zanzibar Island

Mikumi National Park is the closest wildlife safari park to the Capital of Dar es Salaam and it is also the closest to Zanzibar Island. If you are in Zanzibar we can arrange a ferry transfer to Dar es Salaam to start this Mikumi safari or a short flight depending on your preferences and budget.

This safari can be done by staying at a nice affordable lodge located just outside the park; Camp Bastian or Midrange lodge or Standard luxury lodges or tented camps. Standard luxury camps in Mikumi include places like Vuma Hills Tented Camp and The Stanley Kopje Camp.

3 Days Mikumi Safari from Zanzibar itinerary

Day 01

Zanzibar - Dar Es Salaam - Mikumi

On this first day of your safari you will take a flight in the early morning from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam. You will be met and picked up at Dar es Salaam Airport (Domestic Terminal) by your guide and start on your long drive to Mikumi National Park along the Dar es Salaam – Morogoro highway. Mikumi National Park is nestled beautifully nestled between the Uluguru Mountains of the Ancient Eastern Arc Mountains to the East and the Great Rift Valley Escarpments to the parks Southwest. The park is located about 280 Km from Dar es Salaam but on a good tarmac road, and the the transfer from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi may take take about 4 to 5 hours depending on the traffic flow. You will arrive around noon and go straight for game drives around the park with packed lunch at a picnic site or have a stop over at a restaurant on the way for hot lunch. You will do game drives all afternoon until around 06.00 Pm when you will leave the park and check in at a lodge or camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Camp Bastian a nice lodge located just outside Mikumi Park National Park at the park’s boundaries. Lunch box and dinner included.

Day 02

Full day Mikumi National Park

If staying inside the park you can choose to go for an early morning game drives.

Breakfast at your lodge / camp then you will spend a full day with game drives around the Mikumi National Park with a lunch break at the lodge/tented camp if staying inside the park but if staying outside the park then you will have picnic lunch at one of the picnic sites. Mikumi National Park is part of the larger Selous Ecosystem together with the Selous Game Reserve and harbors remarkable numbers of bird’s species and animals. Among the animals that can be spotted at Mikumi includes giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, zebras, hippos, impalas, warthogs, elands, wildebeests, and many other antelopes. Apart from game drives in the park you can also go for an afternoon walking safari guided by an armed ranger who is also a wildlife specialist and a naturalist. in the Later afternoon you will check in a a lodge or camp for overnight. Overnight at Camp Bastian at Mikumi. All meals included.

Day 03

Mikumi - Dar Es Salaam - Zanzibar

Breakfast at your lodge or camp early in the morning, then after breakfast we go for one last game drive in the Mikumi Park before driving back to Dar es Salaam where the safari ends. On arrival at Dar es Salaam you will check in for the late afternoon flight back to Zanzibar ISland.

End of the 03 days Safari from Zanzibar to Mikumi National Park.

Note that: Your fight from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam and back to Zanzibar is included. You can also finish the tour at Dar es Salaam after the safari and that will cost less.
